23 – Old Denali Highway

This was fantastic route that we recommend all visitors to Alaska have a crack at.

On the footbridge over the Kennicott River
The weather was perfect for The Old Denali Highway
The Alaska Range near Paxon at the eastern end of the road
Lots of warnings but this road was breeze compared to the McCarthy Road
No picture can begin to capture the vastness of this area. There’s nuthin there!!
Liberty Falls
Cooking one pound of bacon on a campfire is challenge. There’s no way to control the heat. My knuckles are still bald!
The McCarthy Road was a railway. You would think that grading the road is good thing but actually it just unearths spikes!
The repair. Didn’t have to pay for a new tyre or use the spare. Result!
