03 – Marine tour in Sitka with whales, otters and more

We are off to a great start. Today (21st ) had the WOW factor we were hoping this location would deliver.

We joined Capt Gary at Sitka Adventures at the harbour at 7.45am with locally roasted coffee in hand. We ventured out with 6 others in his custom built boat on a 2.5 hour tour of the inlets, islands and bays that make up the Sitka Sound. Stunning scenery created from volcanic activity and an abundance of sealife.

We were treated to sea lions, porpoise, a group of sea otters lazing on their backs in the water like they were at a pool party, harbour seals, numerous birds and puffins and at least 9 different whale sightings. The magnitude of the space, the peacefulness of the location and the perfect calm water conditions made for the experience of a lifetime and a reminder of the beauty of the natural world.

To conclude we were reunited wth our bags – a satisfying end to the day.

  1. Delighted the bags made it! I have in fact heard of Sitka as it was the place of Ryan Reynolds home in the cult classic The Proposal with Sandra Bullock*

I am eagerly going to be following this page – I expect to be very envious.

*my idea of cult classic is a pretty low bar.
